10 Tips to Advertise your Fundraising Event:

  1. Get the word out early. The more students you reach and earlier you do it, (but not too early), the better chance you will have of getting larger donations and more participation.
  2. Be specific in your publicity. Tell potential donors what it is you stand for, what it is you need and how they would benefit from donating to your cause.
  3. Write up a press release. This is a formal letter explaining your event, so campus and local reporters can cover it on television, the radio, in print publications or on news websites.
  4. Word of mouth is very important. Tell as many people as you can verbally about your fundraising event, and also ask that they tell as many of their friends and family members as possible.
  5. Distribute a flyer. Have hundreds of flyers printed up and distributed around campus. This is an inexpensive way for you to spread the word.
  6. Start an email & social media campaign. Hit all the popular sites, use your chapter web site to promote your fundraiser, email greeks on campus, text, twitter, facebook, etc…
  7. Appear in public. Personally appear at campus events to speak about your fundraiser, seek media interviews on campus and in the local media. Wear your event tee shirt.
  8. Use your mascot or other “character”. Use your recognizable mascot, or someone in costume, to appear in public and at campus events to promote the upcoming event.
  9. Create a memorable slogan. A catchy, rhyming catchphrase will be sure to stick in people’s minds. The name, theme and slogan of your event (even if it’s just a bake sale) are all very important for setting the tone.
  10. Establish an annual event. Make the event an annual occurrence, and market it as such. It lends alot more credibility to a philanthropic cause if a function is the 15th annual!
